Criteria, Constraints, and Standards
Constraints
-
All design elements must be accomplished within the time constraints of the year-long course.
-
Design should meet all standards and specifications for stormwater design in both the State of Virginia, County, and Town of Bluefield.
-
Design should consider flows of existing channel during heavy rainfall events.
-
Construction should not contribute to erosion or degradation of existing channel or yards.
Design should consider (in order of importance):

1. Effectiveness of design at reducing flooding
2. Affordability for homeowners
3. Long-term maintenance and durability
4. Ease of construction
5. Aesthetic value
